PBSI Reunited Leo/Daniel Men's Doubles
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has decided to reunite Leo Rolly Carnando with his old partner Daniel Marthin after the previous restructuring did not produce satisfactory results.
Leo and Daniel are actually a men's doubles team who have been together. They were then dismantled and Leo was paired with Bagas since 2024, but the evaluation results decided that PBSI needed to find a new composition.
The main men's doubles coach of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Antonius Budi Ariantho, revealed that the reason behind the pair's change in the men's doubles sector was part of an effort to improve consistency in performance at the top level.
"We have given [to Leo/Bagas] a lot of opportunities. The results are good, but overall it is still not consistent," he said in a statement received.
Daniel previously also suffered a serious injury that lasted quite a long time since the Sudirman Cup last year. This problem made him absent in so many tournaments before being declared recovered earlier this year.
Anton said that the decision to reunite Leo and Daniel was made to find a partner who was able to perform stably and competitively at the elite level after Indonesia's men's doubles had recently faltered in various important events.
"The two have been paired before, so hopefully it won't take long to adapt and find chemistry again. Technically there are no obstacles, it was more on the non-technical factor," he explained.
Meanwhile, Bagas Maulana was given the opportunity to play with Muh Putra Erwiansyah. This combination is considered to have complementary potential.
The two new pairs will be tested at the BWF Super 500 Thailand Open which will take place on May 12-17, 2026 and then appear at the BWF Super 500 Malaysia Masters on May 19-24, 2026.
