Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding in West Jakarta, 12 RTs and Four Roadways are Flooded

Jakarta - Flooding has again submerged a number of areas in West Jakarta after heavy rains hit the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings. At least 12 neighborhood units (RT) and four roads were reported to be affected with varying water levels.

Head of the BPBD DKI Jakarta Disaster Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan, said the flood was triggered by a combination of high rainfall and overflowing river flows in the western part of the capital.

"The cause of the flood is due to high rainfall and overflow of the Pesanggrahan River and Angke River," he said in Jakarta, Saturday, April 4.

Data until 08.00 WIB showed that the flooding occurred in 12 RT with water levels ranging from 30 to 40 centimeters. The affected areas are spread across several villages, namely Kembangan Selatan with three RT, Kedoya Selatan five RT, Kedaung Kaliangke three RT, and Rawa Buaya one RT.

In addition to settlements, puddles also interfere with transportation access at a number of points. The four affected roads include Jalan Ciledug Raya in the South Petukangan area, Jalan Strategi Raya and Jalan Basoka Raya in Joglo, and Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said in Kuningan Barat. Water levels on these roads vary between 15 and 55 centimeters.

According to Yohan, heavy rain since Friday, April 3 has increased the water level at a number of monitoring posts. Some of them are recorded in the standby status, such as the Sunter Hulu and Pesanggrahan Monitoring Posts at level 3 standby, as well as the Fish Market Water Gate which had reached standby 2.

"The high rise in the water level at a number of monitoring posts contributes to the occurrence of flooding in a number of areas in DKI Jakarta," he said.

In response, the BPBD DKI Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor the condition of the puddle while coordinating with related services, including the Water Resources Service, the Road Construction Service, and the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat). Efforts include pumping water and ensuring that drainage channels function optimally.

In the midst of this condition, the public is asked to remain vigilant against the potential for subsequent flooding, considering that rainfall is still potentially high in the next few days.

"In an emergency, immediately call the 112 phone number. This service is free and operates 24 hours non-stop," said Yohan.
