BMKG: Most Major Cities Will Be Light Rain Today, Beware of Lightning and Strong Wind
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most major cities in Indonesia will experience light to moderate rain on Saturday, April 4, with the potential for increased intensity in a number of areas.
In the official statement, BMKG prakirawan, Alya Sausan, explained that the current atmospheric conditions are influenced by a pattern of convergence that extends in various regions, ranging from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi to Papua. This phenomenon increases the chance of significant rain cloud formation.
A number of areas are predicted to experience moderate to heavy rain with lightning and strong winds, especially in Pangkal Pinang, Nabire, and Merauke. This condition has the potential to cause disruption of community activities and the risk of extreme weather.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is expected to occur in other major cities, including Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, to the Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua regions.
On the other hand, several cities such as Banda Aceh, Medan, Surabaya, Denpasar, Mataram, Makassar, and Ambon are predicted to only experience cloudy conditions throughout the day.
BMKG reminds the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather, especially in areas that are potentially experiencing heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds. Outdoor activities are advised to be adjusted to the dynamic weather conditions.
Previously, the BMKG also revealed that global climate phenomena such as El Nino have the potential to affect the pattern of seasons in Indonesia this year, including the possibility of a longer dry season in some areas such as Jambi.
