Dembele Scores Brace, PSG Firm at the Top of the Table After Defeating Toulouse

JAKARTA - Forward Ousmane Dembele scored a brace as Paris Saint-Germain defeated Toulouse 3-1 in a French Ligue 1 match at the Parc des Princes Stadium, Paris, Saturday, April 4, 2026 early morning WIB. A victory that confirmed PSG's position at the top of the standings.

The competition in Ligue 1 is still tight as it enters the final period of the competition. PSG, who are leading the standings, began to distance themselves from Lens after winning a crucial victory when hosting Toulouse.

Striker Ousmane Dembele showed his best performance by scoring a brace in the match. The 2025 Ballon d'Or winner opened PSG's victory and then brought the team back to the lead after Toulouse equalised through Rasmus Nicolaisen.

"He showed why he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or," PSG coach Luis Enrique said in response to Dembele's impressive performance to france24.

"That's why we love Ousmane so much," he said again.

The victory over Toulouse cemented PSG's position at the top with 63 points. Four points ahead of Lens who are in second place and will face strong team Lille on Sunday, April 5, 2026 early morning WIB.

The result is also a good capital for PSG which will face Liverpool in a big match in the quarter finals of the Champions League. This duel is a repeat of the last 16 last season. At that time, PSG, who then won the trophy for the first time, eliminated Liverpool through a penalty shootout.

PSG will host Liverpool in the first match, Thursday, April 9, 2026 WIB. They then visited the Reds' headquarters the following week. PSG not only wants to retain the Champions League title but also aims for the domestic competition by winning the league for the fifth time in a row and winning the league title for the 12th time in the last 14 seasons.

"It's important for us to prepare better for this match. How not, we play a match on Friday [local time] after the international break. The first match after this competition break is not easy," said Enrique.

"Games like this can make it difficult for you. This game proved to be really not easy and we deserved to get three points. So I'm happy with what I saw. It's also important to put pressure on Lens," he said.

Meanwhile, Toulouse itself remained in the middle of the table after failing to score points at home. They are ranked ninth with 37 points. The same as Lorient, but Toulouse will face Lens in the semi-finals of the French Cup with a goal difference.

In the match, Enrique, as expected, rotated the players because he was focused on facing Liverpool. Moreover, some of them had to travel far after strengthening the national team. Including captain Marquinhos who had a trial with Brazil in the United States. Enrique also bench-warmed the trio of Portugal, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves.

Even though he didn't bring out the best squad, PSG was still able to dominate the game. Dembele, who was the star when France beat Brazil in the test match, showed consistency in his performance.

Not only that, he also managed to break the opponent's goal by showing individual action when defender Mark McKenzie made a mistake when trying to throw the ball. The ball that he threw fell into Dembele's feet who immediately took a first-team shot to the top corner of the goal.

The goal created in the 23rd minute brought PSG ahead 1-0. However, the advantage did not last long. Only four minutes later, PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made a blunder that resulted in a goal. It started from Toulouse's corner kick, whose ball immediately headed to the PSG goal.

Only Safonov failed to secure the ball. As a result, the ball rebounded and created a mess in front of the goal. The opportunity was well taken by Nicolaisen. The Danish defender's header successfully broke into the PSG goal and changed the score to 1-1.

Fortunately, there was Dembele who saved Safonov by bringing PSG back to the lead in the 33rd minute. PSG's goal also started from a corner kick which was greeted by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with a header.

The ball headed towards the goal was then passed by Dembele to break into the Toulouse goal. The score changed to 2-1 for PSG. There were no additional goals until the end of the first half.

In the second half, PSG still dominated the game. Only their attacks could still be thwarted by the back line of the visiting team.

When it was estimated that no more goals were created, substitute Goncalo Ramos finally broke PSG's deadlock in injury time. Ramos secured the home team's lead to 3-1 in the 90+2 minute. The score remained until the end of the match.
