Hydro-meteorological Disaster Prediction in Garut, Still to be Watched
Garut - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java, said that the potential for hydrometeorological disasters must still be wary of the risk impact during the rainy season which is predicted to still be heavy rain until the end of April 2026.
"Currently, the Garut Regency Government through the BPBD is still setting the emergency alert status for hydrometeorological disasters which is valid until April 30, 2026," said the Secretary of the Garut Regency BPBD, Abud Abdullah in Garut, Friday.
He said that the status was set as a form of readiness to face potential hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, extreme weather, and landslides that could potentially occur during heavy rains.
The current weather conditions, he said, based on reports from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) have begun to enter a transitional period from the rainy season to the dry season.
However, the potential for a shift in the seasonal pattern, he said, is marked by rainfall that is still occurring in several areas with moderate to heavy intensity, even accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
"Responding to this condition, the Garut Regency BPBD has prepared anticipatory steps, including ensuring the readiness of personnel and disaster management equipment," he said.
He said that BPBD Garut also continued to monitor every weather development from BMKG as an initial step in preparing to take steps to anticipate natural disasters.
Until now, he continued, the Garut BPBD has also continued to remind the public, especially those in disaster-prone areas, to always be alert to the potential for disasters when it rains.
"We remind the public to be more careful in their activities, especially when it rains with moderate to heavy intensity, and immediately report if there is a potential for disaster in their respective environments," he said.
He added that Garut Regency is prone to natural disasters such as floods, landslides, land movement, extreme weather, and strong winds.
Like during the Lebaran homecoming and return flow security, he said, it was recorded that since March 14-29, 2026, as many as 15 natural disasters occurred in several areas in Garut.
"The dominance of events is extreme weather seven times, followed by landslides six events, and floods two events," he said.
