Beat the Clippers, Spurs extend 11-game winning streak
San Antonio Spurs managed to maintain a positive trend by defeating the Los Angeles Clippers in the continuation of the NBA Inglewood California match, Friday WIB. They won with a score of 118-99.
This match result continued the Spurs' 11-game winning streak which is on fire. The slick performance was maintained even though it was not supported by the star Victor Wembanyama.
Quoting ANTARA from the official NBA website, De'Aaron Fox led the Spurs' victory with 22 points from 9 of 13 shots, while the team also showed the depth of the squad with six players scoring double digits.
Wembanyama was not played in this match because he took a break in the second game in the back-to-back schedule. Previously, Wemby was dominant with 41 points and 18 rebounds when the Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors.
In addition to Fox, Stephon Castle contributed 20 points, while Dylan Harper added 19 points from the bench to ensure the Spurs' dominance throughout the match.
This victory keeps Spurs' chances of chasing the top spot in the NBA Western Conference standings, with an impressive record of 27 wins and only two losses since February 1, as well as a record of 11-5 (11 wins, 5 losses) when Wembanyama is absent.
From the Clippers' camp, Kawhi Leonard was the top scorer with 24 points, extending his record of 53 consecutive games with at least 20 points. Bennedict Mathurin added 18 points from the bench, while John Collins scored 15 points.
Spurs dominated the game from the start with a 26-point lead in the first half. They recorded high shot accuracy, reaching 72 percent at the start of the second quarter, including opening the period with a 11-2 pace and scoring 20 of the first 28 attempts.
The Clippers rallied in the third quarter with 34 points to the Spurs' 19. Mathurin contributed 10 points and Leonard eight points in a 14-4 run that cut the deficit to 78-87 before the final quarter.
But the Spurs responded immediately at the start of the fourth quarter. Castle scored eight of his team's first 10 points to again extend the lead to 99-84 and seal the victory.
This result dropped the Clippers to ninth place in the standings for the play-in tournament after suffering two consecutive losses, while the Portland Trail Blazers rose to eighth place after winning.
Next, Spurs will travel to the Denver Nuggets' home on Sunday in the last away game of the regular season, while the Clippers are scheduled to face the Sacramento Kings on Monday.
