Ask for Legal Protection Related to Mine Closure, HSS Surati Regency Residents Polda Kalsel

JAKARTA - A number of residents in South Hulu Sungai Regency (HSS) wrote to the South Kalimantan Police. They asked for protection because they planned to close mining activities and close the mine area owned by PT Antang Gunung Meratus (AGM).

The letter was signed by Zainuddin, Rusna Yuda, and Normah on behalf of the people of Padang Batung Village, Kaliring Village, and Madang Village, Padang Batung District. The closure of mining activities was because there was no agreement.

"We as land owners have never given permission. Mining activities have damaged rubber plants which are the source of people's livelihoods," said Zainuddin in a statement quoted on Friday, April 3.

Zainuddin emphasized that until now the company has not provided compensation for the land that has been mined. There has been no compensation in any form received by residents so that it has the potential to violate applicable laws and regulations.

This condition makes the community ask for legal protection to the police regarding the plan to stop mining activities.

The notification letter was also sent to a number of parties, including the South Hulu Sungai Police, the HSS Regent, the Padang Batung Police, the PT AGM party, the Padang Batung Village Head, and the local village head.

This step is referred to as an effort by residents to obtain legal certainty over land that is claimed to be affected by mining activities.

"This step is called an effort by residents to obtain legal certainty for land that is claimed to be affected by mining activities," concluded Zainuddin.
