Trump's Moment Mocking Macron's Wife for France's Refusal to Help the US Attack Iran

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump attacked the personal life of French President Emmanuel Macron who firmly refused to help the US-Israeli war against Iran.

"I called France, Macron - whose wife treats him very badly. Still recovering from the blow to the right jaw," Trump said, mocking Macron's wife, reported France24 on Thursday, April 2.

Trump's gesture was a form of sarcasm referring to a May 2025 news video recording showing Macron's face being pushed by his wife, Brigitte Macron, during a lunch in Vietnam.

At the time, Macron denied there was a "domestic dispute" by arguing that the two were "joking as they often do."

Furthermore, Trump's mocking behavior of Macron on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, then targeted the impact of the US-Israeli war on Iran. Trump claimed that Macron refused to engage in the war and offered assistance to the US "after the war was won."

"And I said, 'Emmanuel, we would love to have help in the Gulf even though we're setting records in taking out bad guys and destroying ballistic missiles. We'd love to have help. If you could, could you send a ship right away?'" Trump said.

Trump then joked about the French accent as if Macron had said: "No, no, no, we can't do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won."

"I said, 'No, no, I don't need it after the war is won, Emmanuel,'" Trump said.

French politicians spoke out against Trump's behavior mocking Macron, whose video was uploaded to the White House's YouTube channel.

"To be honest, it is not up to standard," said the President of the French National Assembly, Yael Braun-Pivet, during an interview session on the Franceinfo television station.

"Currently, we are discussing the future of the world. Currently, in Iran, this [the actions of the country's leaders] has an impact on the lives of millions of people, people are dying on the battlefield, and there is a president who laughs, who mocks others," he continued.

Even Manuel Bompard, the government's opposition who is the leader of the radical left-wing party La France Insoumise, spoke up in defense of Macron. '

"You know how much I disagree with the president [Macron], but Donald Trump spoke to him like that and spoke about his wife in such a way - I find it totally unacceptable," Bompard told news channel BFMTV.
