Tehran: Strait of Hormuz Open to World, Closed to Iran's Enemies

JAKARTA - Tehran said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to global shipping, but closed to Iran's enemies.

Advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, said the end of the war would be determined by Iran's strategy rather than the "illusions" of its enemies.

"The war will end with the strategy and authority of Iran, not with the fantasies and illusions of the aggressors," he said on X, as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, April 2.

The statement came hours after US President Donald Trump said in a televised address from the White House that Iran only had "a little" missile launchers and its ability to launch missiles and drones had been "greatly reduced."

Trump said he expected the war to continue for another two to three weeks, but believed the conflict was nearing an end.

On the other hand, Iran has maintained its control over the Strait of Hormuz - a strategic waterway for energy supplies to Asian countries.

Tehran has allowed ships from a number of Iran's "friendly countries" to cross the Strait of Hormuz.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, resulting in more than 1,340 deaths, including then-Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran then retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Iranian attacks caused casualties and infrastructure damage, as well as disrupting global markets and flights.
