Global Crisis Makes 7 of the 10 Richest People in the World Lose Rp2.897 Trillion

JAKARTA - Geopolitical turmoil has shaken the global market again, and the impact is immediately felt on the wealth of billionaires. Citing a report from Anadolu Agency (AA), in the midst of a major conflict in the Middle East, seven of the 10 richest people in the world have lost a total of US$170.3 billion or around Rp2.897.7 trillion, assuming a US$1 = Rp17,015 exchange rate, referring to the Bank Indonesia reference exchange rate as of April 2, 2026.

Global markets actually moved positively at the beginning of the year. However, the situation quickly changed. The protests in Iran, the intervention of the United States in Venezuela, the China-Japan diplomatic crisis, and geopolitical tensions in various regions made investors uneasy. The pressure increased after the joint attack by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28 developed into a wider conflict after Tehran retaliated.

Anadolu Agency (AA) did not specify the basis of its calculation. However, the pattern of the numbers shows that the data refers to wealth changes since the beginning of the year.

Of the seven billionaires whose wealth shrank, LVMH boss Bernard Arnault recorded the biggest drop. His wealth fell by US$55.4 billion, equivalent to around Rp942.6 trillion, to US$153 billion.

Oracle founder Larry Ellison lost US$52.4 billion or around Rp891.6 trillion, bringing his fortune down to US$195 billion. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was also hit, with a US$30.5 billion or around Rp519 trillion drop to US$203 billion.

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos lost US$23.3 billion or around Rp396.4 trillion. Google co-founder Larry Page fell US$21.9 billion or around Rp372.6 trillion, followed by Sergey Brin who lost US$20.4 billion or around Rp347.1 trillion. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also fell, with a wealth reduction of US$10.1 billion or around Rp171.9 trillion.

While other billionaires are losing money, Elon Musk is getting richer. The richest man in the world has added US$24.2 billion or around Rp411.8 trillion since the beginning of the year, bringing his total wealth to US$644 billion, equivalent to around Rp10,957.7 trillion.

The increase was also enjoyed by the Walmart heir's family. Jim Carr recorded a surge in wealth of US$9.8 billion or around Rp166.7 trillion, while Samuel Robson Walton added US$9.7 billion or around Rp165 trillion.
