France Helps Bahrain Arrange Hormuz Strait Resolution at the UN Security Council

France advised Bahrain on a UN Security Council resolution authorizing the use of force to open the Strait of Hormuz, Politico reported on Thursday (1/4), citing an anonymous diplomat.

The Financial Times previously reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain were seeking a UN Security Council resolution to restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

However, sources say Russia and China are likely to oppose the move.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, April 2, an anonymous diplomat said French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot met with his counterpart from Bahrain as well as other Gulf officials on March 25 to exchange views.

The meeting aims to increase the chances of adopting the resolution and its implementation.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched an attack on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and killed civilians.

Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

Escalation in the region led to a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the main route for shipping oil and liquefied natural gas to global markets, thus affecting energy exports and production and driving up prices.
