DKI Provincial Government Closes Illegal TPS, Handling Waste for Eid is Tightened
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH) has accelerated the handling of waste accumulation in a number of points in the city after the Lebaran holiday. This condition is also triggered by a landslide incident in TPST Bantargebang which had disrupted transportation operations.
Head of the DKI Jakarta DLH Asep Kuswanto admitted that there was a buildup of garbage and apologized to the public. According to him, his party adjusted the pattern of transportation, including scheduling or shifting to break the line of trucks heading to Bantargebang.
"Pascalebaran and the landslide incident in TPST Bantargebang some time ago, there was a buildup of garbage in several points in the city. We do not cover up this condition and apologize to the public for the inconvenience that occurred," said Asep in Jakarta, Thursday, April 2.
A number of points that had experienced a buildup are now being handled. At the Kali Anyar TPS, the emptying process has been completed and the condition of the location is reported to have returned to clean.
Enforcement was also carried out against illegal TPS which had been a source of accumulation. One of them was at the TPS Rawadas, the Pondok Kopi TPU area, which had been permanently closed through collaboration between the sub-district, village, and Satpol PP. Until Wednesday evening, the area was clean of garbage.
A similar step is being taken at the Kencana TPS, which is under the Wiyoto Wiyono Toll Road or Tanjung Priok Toll Road. After the emptying process is completed, this location will be permanently closed with the installation of iron fences and integrated supervision involving LMK, Satpol PP, and the police.
DLH targets this week the operation of transporting garbage to the Bantargebang Waste Treatment Plant to return to normal. Post-Eid al-Fitr waste is also being distributed to processing facilities, including the RDF Plant.
"We are committed to speeding up waste handling in the city so that it does not cause inconvenience to residents. All DLH staff continue to work optimally so that the condition is immediately recovered and waste transportation services continue to run optimally," said Asep.
Asep emphasized that there was no quota restriction on the shipment of waste to Bantargebang. DLH only rearranged the distribution system through a more measurable division of labor.
Currently, waste transportation is divided into three shifts every day to maintain the smooth flow of trucks and reduce queues at the disposal site.
With this scheme, the waiting time for trucks or dwelling time is maintained for no more than three hours. In addition to increasing efficiency, this step is also said to maintain the safety of drivers.
"We want to ensure that drivers work in a safe and orderly manner, while maintaining the smooth operation of waste transportation," he added.
