Filming The Hostage's Hero, Donny Alamsyah Proud to Feel Like a Commander of the TNI AL Frigate

JAKARTA - Veteran actor Donny Alamsyah shared an unforgettable experience while filming the latest military action film titled The Hostage's Hero. In the production, Donny had the opportunity to board a frigate belonging to the Indonesian Navy (AL).

Cast to play the character of Lieutenant Colonel Taufiq, Donny feels the tension and pride of being a commander on a warship tasked with chasing pirates in the open sea.

"For me, it is a proud experience as well as a valuable experience, because I sit and command a large and powerful combat unit," said Donny Alamsyah in South Jakarta, not long ago.

Based on a true story, The Hostage's Hero tells the heroic operation to free 36 hostages on the MT Pematang ship that was hijacked in the Malacca Strait in 2004. This historic event is a reminder of how the Indonesian naval fleet fought tirelessly to overcome all limitations in order to maintain the sovereignty of the country's waters.

The Head of the Navy History Service (Kadisjarahal), First Admiral TNI I Made Wira Hady Arsanta Wardhana, assessed that cinema is a very appropriate medium to educate the public.

"The role of the film media is important for now, but more to the public media to disseminate history more flexibly," explained Wira Hady.

Following the release of The Hostage's Hero, Wira Hady revealed that the Indonesian Navy still targets the creation of other historical films. He said there were still many naval records that were very potential to be visualized through audiovisual media.

"Actually, the film media in publishing history is very effective and easier to understand, so Disjarahal still has plans to raise history using film media. Because there are so many TNI AL history and maritime history of the archipelago that need to be known by the public," he said.

However, the Navy History Service (Disjarahal) will continue to coordinate with various parties to develop these interesting stories in the future.

The Hostage's Hero is a military action drama film that highlights the tension on board the MT Pematang after it was seized by a gang of armed pirates. The focus of the story will follow the intelligence and courage of Lieutenant Colonel Taufiq - an officer of the Indonesian Navy at that time - in designing a liberation strategy that was considered almost impossible.

By risking the lives of 36 hostages, Lieutenant Colonel Taufiq and his team at KRI Karel Satsuitubun-356 had to race against time and the ferocity of the sea waves to launch a surprise attack to bring the hostages home safely.

In addition to Donny Alamsyah, this film is also starring a number of famous names such as Rifky Balweel, Asri Welas, Bang Tigor, Aditya Herpavi, Choky Sitohang, Ritassya Wellgreat, and Brata Santoso.
