Oil Tanker Aqua 1 Attacked in Qatari Waters

JAKARTA - The tanker Aqua 1, which was chartered by Qatar Energy and carrying fuel oil, was attacked in Qatari waters. There were no injuries and no environmental damage.

"Qatar Energy confirms that the tanker Aqua 1, an oil tanker chartered by Qatar Energy, was attacked by a missile in the northern territorial waters of the State of Qatar on Wednesday, April 1, in the early hours," the company said in a statement quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, April 2.

However, none of the crew members on board the ship were injured. The incident did not cause environmental damage.

The Qatari Ministry of Defense said one of the missiles fired from Iran had hit an oil tanker in Qatari territorial waters. More than 20 crew members of the unfortunate ship were evacuated.

"The Ministry of Defense of Qatar announced that the State of Qatar was targeted today, Wednesday, by (3) cruise missiles launched from Iran," the ministry wrote on X.

"Our armed forces, by the grace of God, managed to intercept two cruise missiles, while the third missile hit an oil tanker chartered by Qatar Energy in Qatari territorial waters."

"A number of procedures have been implemented, and coordination has been established with the relevant authorities in an effort to evacuate the tanker, which carries 21 crew members, without casualties," the ministry said.
