Toyota Hilux EV Launched in Malaysia, Price Breaks Rp955 Million

JAKARTA - UMW Toyota Motor enters a new phase with the launch of three new models in Malaysia, one of which is the new Hilux EV or known as Travo in Thailand.

Citing the Paultan website, Thursday, April 2, the above model is imported intact from Thailand and priced at 226,300 ringgit or Rp955 million. This price does not include insurance.

In terms of specifications, the Hilux EV still uses the same Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) chassis frame platform as was first used on the seventh generation Hilux, this EV is powered by two front motor motors producing 112 PS (82 kW) and 205 Nm of torque, while the rear motor produces 176 PS (129 kW) and 268 Nm of torque. The total output power of the system is 196 PS (144 kW).

As for the mileage, the Toyota Hilux EV is equipped with a 59.2 kWh NMC battery, a relatively small figure for a vehicle of this weight, and can only produce 257 km on the WLTP cycle.

However, the Hilux EV supports DC fast charging up to 125 kW, which takes 30 minutes to fully charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent. The vehicle also receives AC charging up to 10 kW for charging from 10 to 100 percent in 6.5 hours.

The towing capacity of the truck is also affected, which is less than half the usual capacity of 3.5 tons, namely 1.6 tons. However, the Hilux EV still has a ground clearance of 212 mm and a maximum water depth of 700 mm which is the same as the other versions

The ninth-generation Hilux is more of a significant appearance refresh than a completely new model, retaining the center cabin section from its predecessor. However, the front has been modernized, featuring a much sleeker LED headlight with a C-shaped daytime running light, which is connected by a black bar with the Toyota lettering.

On the inside, the new Hilux has a striking resemblance to the Land Cruiser Prado, with a hexagonal shape that reappears in the center of the steering airbag and the center air vents as well as dual-zone air conditioning controls. There is also an increase in the use of stitched soft materials on the dashboard and door panels, and as before, there are two storage drawers and a glass holder near the corner air vents.

Technology has been significantly upgraded, with two 12.3-inch screens for instrumentation and infotainment, the latter equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. There is also a Qi wireless charger, and this time it is an OEM built-in tray, not an aftermarket addition under the armrest.

For driver assistance features, the addition of EPS and EPB enables Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centering assist. These features complement standard functions such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking AEB, and automatic high beams. Seven airbags (including one for the driver's knees) and stability control are also installed.
