M7.6 earthquake in North Sulawesi: 1 dead hit by debris and 1 broken leg

MANADO - North Sulawesi Basarnas spokesman Nuriadin Gumeleng said that the tectonic earthquake felt in North Sulawesi caused two victims in Manado.

"One victim who died was hit by the ruins and was taken to the hospital, the other broke his leg because he jumped from the store," he said in Manado, quoted by Antara on Thursday, April 2.

His party is still looking for information related to the possibility that there are still residents who are victims of the earthquake.

The magnitude 7.6 earthquake that occurred in the waters of Bitung, North Sulawesi and North Maluku, Thursday, at 06.48 Wita, was felt strongly in Manado City.

BMKG has updated data with the early warning of tsunami in the waters of North Sulawesi and North Maluku.

The earthquake was located at 1.25 degrees north latitude, 126.27 degrees east longitude and at a depth of 62 km.

BMKG Geophysical Station Manado Data and Information Coordinator Muhammad Zulkifli said seven areas in North Maluku and North Sulawesi provinces were potentially tsunami alert.
