Out of the Comfort Zone of Action Films, Hana Malasan Reveals Deep Emotions Playing a Single Mother
JAKARTA - Actress Hana Malasan greeted Indonesian cinema lovers again through her latest film project titled Kupeluk Kamu Selamanya.
Known for often starring in action films, this time Hana challenged herself to get out of her comfort zone by taking the lead role in a drama film. She plays the character of a single mother named Naya.
Hana revealed that her decision to take on this role was a form of self-proof as well as her longing for the drama genre.
"I started my career in film with drama, then for a long time I played a lot in the action genre. Indeed, two years ago I suddenly thought I really wanted to go back and try drama. As an actor, of course, you want to challenge yourself and play in all genres," said Hana in the South Tangerang area, Wednesday, April 1.
Furthermore, Hana explained the appeal of Naya's character that made her immediately fall in love. According to him, Naya is a very human figure, where this character can feel fragile and tired, but always tries to look strong in front of her child.
"This Naya character feels very human. This must be felt by many mothers out there. In fact, there is one similarity between Naya and me personally, which is always wanting to look strong and feeling like you have to fight alone. Even though, maybe there is a support system around you, but Naya chooses not to see it," he explained.
Moving from the action genre to a family-themed drama certainly presents its own challenges for Hana. If action films require more physical endurance, the role as Naya requires a much deeper layered emotional exploration.
"Naya has a lot of feelings in it. From the fear of losing, having to fight alone, and feeling lonely. It's very challenging because I have to play something very quiet in my heart, but I have to look good in front of my son," said Hana describing the emotional layer of her character.
Behind the extraordinary character development, this film turns out to hold very personal and emotional memories for Hana Malasan. Because he has no experience as a mother, he made his late mother the main inspiration in building Naya's character.
In a tearful tone, Hana shared a sad story that happened shortly after the filming process for this film was completed.
"A week after this film was wrapped (finished filming), my mother passed away. Because I haven't become a mother, I've definitely gotten a lot of inspiration from my own mother. Her strength, her great love, I get it from her," recalled Hana.
For Hana, Naya's character is not just a role on the script, but a form of respect and everlasting memory for her mother.
"I feel like this film is very personal to me. Part of my mother is in the character of Naya and in this film. Of course, my mother is one of my biggest inspirations," concluded Hana.
Kupeluk Kamu Selamanya will also be starring Jared Ali, Ibnu Jamil, Fanny Ghassani to Mario Irwinsyah and is planned to start airing on April 30.
