Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Minta PBB Transparan Usut Serangan di Lebanon
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago asked the United Nations (UN) to be transparent in investigating the case of an attack in southern Lebanon that resulted in the death of three peacekeepers from the TNI.
"The government demands a quick, transparent, and comprehensive UN investigation and insists that the perpetrators must be held legally accountable without immunity," Djamari said in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 1.
According to him, the repeated attacks experienced by TNI personnel are unacceptable actions and reflect the low commitment to ensuring the safety of peacekeepers by the warring parties.
In addition, the incident also became a personal wound for the TNI because it had to lose its best soldiers in the midst of a mission to create world peace.
He said that if the incident was not handled seriously, it was not impossible that peacekeepers from other countries would also be victims of attacks in the region.
Djamari again emphasized to the UN to act decisively, united, and consistent in following up on the results of the investigation to ensure the safety of peacekeepers.
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) as the Director of the Peacekeeping Mission Coordination Team (TKMPP) will strengthen coordination with the Ministry of Defense, TNI, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safety of personnel in the assignment area.
The Coordinating Minister will encourage a review of the soldier security protocol to match the development of the situation in the southern Lebanon conflict area.
Previously, three TNI personnel on a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission were reported to have died while on duty in Lebanon in March 2026.
Based on TNI data, those who fell were Head Soldier Farizal Rhomadhon, Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Captain (Inf) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar.
Fahrizal died as a result of an indirect artillery attack near Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon, Sunday (29/3). Meanwhile, Nur Ichwan and Zulmi died due to vehicle explosions near Bani Haiyyan, Monday (30/3).
