Karni Ilyas and Aiman Witjaksono Investigated by Police Regarding Alleged Fake Jokowi Diploma

JAKARTA - A number of journalists were questioned by the police in connection with the investigation into the alleged fake diploma case of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Two names that were examined included former TV One Editor-in-Chief, Karni Ilyas and iNews Editor-in-Chief, Aiman Witjaksono.

Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, said investigators examined the two as witnesses in the case.

"There was a call from investigators regarding the witness of the diploma case. We are still investigating," Budi told the media at the Polda Metro Jaya, Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Budi revealed that Karni Ilyas had fulfilled the call of the investigators on Monday, March 30, 2026. However, his party plans to ask for further information from Karni Ilyas.

"We see that yesterday Mr. Karni was present as a witness. Later, further information will be requested. The person concerned was also present, but we hope that there may be developments related to further examinations," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding Aiman Witjaksono, Budi has not given a clear explanation, including coordination with related parties, including the Press Council, is still waiting for developments.

"Later we will convey if there is an update," he said briefly.

Budi emphasized that in addition to the two names, investigators also summoned a number of other media executives. This examination is related to the broadcast or information that appears on television about the alleged fake Jokowi diploma.

"Well, I also said that there were some media parties, yes, senior media to attend. This means that it may be seen in some television events," said Budi.

"Well, we will also coordinate with our fellow investigators to see if the footage is broadcast on a television station. We are still investigating," he concluded.
