Reject the expropriation, Jusuf Kalla to Hamdan Zoelva Declare the Petition of the Sultan Hotel
JAKARTA - A number of national figures launched a Justice Petition entitled "Reject the Sultan Hotel Seizure" in response to the controversy over the Sultan Hotel area dispute, which was considered to have harmed the principles of justice and legal certainty.
The petition, which was declared at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 1, was attended by former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) 10 and 12, Jusuf Kalla, Din Syamsuddin, Amir Syamsuddin, and former Chairman of the Constitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva, along with a number of community leaders and civil elements.
The figures stated that the petition was a common stance against the alleged expropriation of the Sultan Hotel land and building which was said to be in the name of the state, but was considered contrary to the law.
In their statement, they emphasized that this issue not only concerns the ownership of assets, but also legal certainty and a sense of justice for the community.
Jusuf Kalla emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and the principle of justice, not unilateral steps.
"Problems like this should not be solved in a unilateral way. There must be a fair dialogue so that it does not harm all parties," said Jusuf Kalla.
He also reminded that an unfair settlement has the potential to lower public confidence and impact the business climate.
"If it is not resolved fairly, this can cause distrust and have an impact on the business climate," he said.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for PT Indobuildco and former Constitutional Court Chairman, Hamdan Zoelva, stated that the management did not want to prolong the conflict.
"This is not dealing with the state, but dealing with injustice. We hope there is a space for dialogue so that this issue can be resolved fairly," said Hamdan.
In the petition, the figures conveyed five demands. First, reject all forms of expropriation of the Sultan Hotel without legal basis and without a final court decision. Second, reject business restrictions and revocation of permits in the midst of ongoing legal proceedings.
Third, reject the unilateral determination of the area as part of the Land Management Rights (HPL) without legal basis and valid court decisions. Fourth, emphasize that the state's takeover must be through a legal mechanism with compensation to the legitimate owner. Fifth, reject power intervention in legal processes and executions without a final court ruling.
The figures assessed that the dispute had developed into a national issue involving legal certainty, justice, and the continuation of business and labor.
The launch of this petition is expected to be a moral boost for the resolution of disputes to be carried out through fair, transparent, and upholding the principle of the rule of law legal mechanisms.
