Trump Accuses Postal Ballot of Rigging US Election but Admits to Doing It
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump apparently cast his vote in the 2026 Florida state election using the mail-in voting procedure.
This was known only a few days after Trump accused there was a potential for fraud in the postal voting method during the US state elections.
"You know, because I'm president of the United States, and because the fact that I'm president of the United States, I'm voting by mail [via postal express] for the election that's taking place in Florida," he told reporters during a Cabinet meeting at the White House. quoted from NBC News.
Trump reasoned that he did this because he was a President. He admitted that his position as head of state could make him privileged as a constituent of the US state general election.
"I decided that I would vote by mail because I can't be there, because I have a lot of different things," Trump said.
According to a staff member at the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office, the general election in the state of Florida, specifically the Florida House of Representatives District 87, which Trump attended, took place at two locations in Palm Beach County, from Saturday, March 14 to Sunday, March 22. Thus, voters can also attend on weekends.
Trump is known to have spent the weekend on early voting, Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 22, at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. He was on his golf course over the weekend.
On Tuesday, March 24, Trump attended a swearing-in ceremony for Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin at the White House.
On the same day, The Guardian reported Wednesday, April 1, Trump signed an executive order restricting postal voting procedures. This unprecedented policy in the US requires the US central and state governments to tighten rules on voter ballots.
Through his instructions, Trump asked for a strict compilation of the national voter list and the US postal service to be instructed to send ballots only to voters on the voter list in the Social Security Administration data.
During a White House press conference, Trump said the government wanted to require voter identification cards and proof of citizenship as a reference for verification in the voter list.
Trump has long accused mail-in voting methods of being rife with fraud. However, Trump's accusations are often without evidence.
In 2020, Trump also admitted to using a mail-in voting procedure. At that time, Trump also argued that he did it "because I was allowed."
"There's a big difference between someone who's out of state and votes by mail, and it's all sealed and certified," he said at the time.
"I think voting by mail is a bad thing. I think if you're going to vote, you have to go to a polling place," Trump continued.
