Thieves of Charity Boxes in 21 Mamuju Mosques Arrested by Police

JAKARTA - Polresta Mamuju, West Sulawesi. arrested two thieves specializing in church charity boxes and have acted 24 times in 21 mosques spread across Mamuju Regency.

"The two perpetrators, namely SD (33) and RD (24), were arrested in the Malunda District when they were heading to Majene Regency," said Head of Public Relations Section of the Mamuju Police, Iptu Herman Basir, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 1.

The arrest of the two perpetrators of the theft of the mosque's charity box specialists began with a report from a number of managers of the Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) in the Mamuju City area who admitted to being restless due to the loss of the mosque's charity box, especially during the month of Ramadan.

From the report, the Resmob Team of the Mamuju Police Criminal Investigation Unit then conducted an investigation until finally managing to arrest SD and RD.

"Based on the results of the examination, the two perpetrators admitted that they had committed 24 acts of theft at 21 mosques spread across the Mamuju area. The action was carried out before and during Ramadan until after the Eid al-Fitr holiday," explained Herman Basir.

Both perpetrators admitted that they used the money from the stolen money in the charity box to meet their living needs.

"The losses due to the theft of charity boxes in 21 mosques amounted to Rp. 10 million, the stolen money was used by the two perpetrators to meet personal needs," said Herman Basir.

The action of stealing the charity box carried out by the two perpetrators went viral on various social media platforms in Mamuju Regency, when they were acting at the Riyadhus Shalihin Mosque, in front of SMA Negeri 1 Mamuju.

In the first recording, it is seen that the two perpetrators, namely on Friday (27/3) around 14.36, visited the Riyadhus Shalihin Mosque, using a motorcycle.

However, because it is suspected that the two charity boxes are empty, so the two of them look like they are going home without bringing the results.

Then on Saturday (28/3) at around 13.30 WITA, one of the perpetrators was seen returning to the Riyadhus Shalihin Mosque, then immediately turned off the electricity, so that their actions were not recorded by surveillance cameras.
