Dozens of Houses and Public Facilities in Klaten Damaged by Strong Wind
JAKARTA - A total of 85 residential units in Klaten Regency, Central Java, were damaged by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that hit the area.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the hydrometeorological disaster had a significant impact on 18 villages in five sub-districts.
"A total of 83 houses were slightly damaged and two other houses were moderately damaged. A total of 87 families were affected, with four of them forced to flee to relatives' houses," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 1.
The BNPB Operations Control Center detailed that the affected areas included the Cawas, Karanganom, Tulung, Jatinom, and Ngawen sub-districts. In the Karanganom District, the damage was spread across the villages of Jurangjero, Gempol, Karangan, Soropaten, Pandean, and Babadan, while in the Tulung District it hit six villages including Majegan and Kiringan Villages.
In addition to the residential sector, said Abdul, the strong winds also damaged two school units, four public facilities, two places of worship, three shops, and two livestock pens belonging to residents in various locations.
BNPB recorded 48 trees that fell which caused disruption to the electricity and internet network, as well as closing road access at 21 points.
Abdul ensured that the Klaten BPBD rapid reaction team along with cross-agency volunteers such as the TNI, Polri, Fire Department, Basarnas, Indonesian Red Cross were already on the ground to conduct in-depth assessments and a total inventory of material losses.
Until now, emergency handling efforts for buildings that have suffered damage are still being carried out in a cooperative manner by a joint team with local residents to accelerate the process of restoring infrastructure in the affected areas.
