Data Center Industry Shortage of Human Resources, Equinix Strengthens Talent Development
JAKARTA - Equinix, Inc., a global digital infrastructure company, announced a global investment in workforce development in the digital infrastructure industry, as demand surges due to the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.
One of Equinix's key workforce investment initiatives is the global launch of Pathways to Tech, a pre-career talent program that opens inclusive pathways to data center operations for students aged 14-18.
After running for two years successfully reaching nearly 2,000 students in a number of communities in the Americas and Asia-Pacific regions, Pathways to Tech is now expanding to all Equinix locations in the world.
This program provides students with hands-on experience of digital infrastructure through interactive sessions with Equinix professionals, an IBX data center tour, and an immersive "Education Day" activity.
"We are deeply committed to developing a diverse and future-ready technical workforce. Investing in human capital is how we continue to pave the way to the future," said Raouf Abdel, Executive Vice President, Global Operations at Equinix.
By reaching students early through real-world experience with data centers, interconnection technology, and hands-on learning, Equinix is not just competing for talent; we're creating it.
In addition to "Pathways to Tech", Equinix has also launched a number of other initiatives, including a global data center technician training partnership through the Equinix Foundation with Generation, which will begin in Brazil with the support of Cisco Systems, before being expanded globally by 2026.
Equinix is also expanding its global internship and apprenticeship program in six countries, namely Brazil, France, Germany, the United States, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, to create structured career paths for young talent.
Not only that, the company also presents the "Learning Laboratory" program in Dallas, Paris, and Singapore, which focuses on direct technical training related to data center operations, including electrical, cooling, and safety systems.
Equinix's new workforce development initiatives, including the "Pathways to Tech" program, will begin to be launched globally by 2026, with implementation plans in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions.
