KPK ensures the presence of Asrul Aziz Taba in Saudi Arabia does not hinder the investigation of the Hajj quota corruption.

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that the presence of the suspect in the alleged corruption case of the haj quota, Asrul Aziz Taba (ASR), who is currently in Saudi Arabia will not hinder the legal process.

This anti-corruption institution believes that the former General Chairman of the Indonesian Republic Tour Travel Haji Umrah Union (Kesthuri) will remain cooperative.

KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo explained that investigators had established communication with Asrul. Through this communication, the KPK has obtained certainty and confirmation regarding the current position of the suspect in the land of the prophets.

"Of course, the presence of the suspect ASR abroad is not an obstacle in investigating this case. We believe that the suspect will act cooperatively because there has been communication between investigators and the suspect," said Budi Prasetyo as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 1.

In order to accelerate the completion of the case, the KPK plans to carry out intensive coordination with related authorities in Saudi Arabia, including the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI).

This step was taken to ensure that Asrul's repatriation to the country went smoothly so that the person concerned could immediately undergo intensive examination as a suspect.

Budi referring to several previous cases where KPK suspects were abroad, but were successfully repatriated thanks to inter-state cooperation.

Efforts to coordinate with relevant parties are carried out so that parties whose statements are needed can follow the investigation process according to the procedures in force in Indonesia.

The corruption case related to the 2023-2024 Hajj quota has been running since August 2025.

So far, investigators have named a number of big names as suspects, including former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and staff in particular, Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, who are now both in the KPK detention cell.

Asrul Aziz Taba was named a suspect along with Maktour Operations Director Ismail Adham on March 30, 2026.

The determination of the new suspect is an expansion of the results of the audit of the Indonesian Financial Supervisory Authority (BPK) which recorded a fantastic state financial loss of IDR 622 billion due to the distribution of the haj quota.
