KPK Targets the Hajj Travel Agency to Recover State Losses of IDR 622 Billion
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is now focusing its investigation on the haj organizing bureau to optimize the recovery of state financial losses in the case of alleged corruption in the 2023-2024 haj quota.
This step was taken after the anti-corruption agency officially appointed two new suspects from the private sector at the end of March.
KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo stated that investigators are currently actively calling for the Special Haji Organizers (PIHK) to investigate the flow of funds that have harmed the state.
According to him, the main focus of the current investigation is how to pursue assets so that the return of state losses can be maximized.
"In the investigation of this case, investigators are still focusing on calling PIHK or the haji organizing bureau. Moreover, the focus of the investigators is how to optimize asset recovery," said Budi Prasetyo as quoted by ANTARA, in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Budi explained that based on the results of the audit of the Indonesian Financial Supervisory Board (BPK), the value of state financial losses in this case reached IDR 622 billion.
The KPK suspects that the very large loss value is derived from illegal profits obtained by the travel agency through the mechanism of dividing the quota for the hajj pilgrimage which violates the rules.
"Can be optimal (asset recovery), from where? Yes, of course from these PIHKs who then get profits from the process or mechanism of distributing the quota for the hajj, which is carried out in ways that are suspected of being against the law," said Budi.
The development of this case is a continuation of the determination of suspects against the former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and staff in particular, Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex.
Yaqut himself is currently in the KPK Detention House (Rutan) after previously undergoing a period of house arrest which was later canceled by investigators on March 24.
The KPK has also expanded the legal net to private parties by naming Maktour Operations Director Ismail Adham and the General Chairman of the Indonesian Republic of Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Union (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba as new suspects.
However, the owner of the Maktour bureau, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, has not been named a suspect so far, although he has been prevented from going abroad.
Budi ensured that the investigation of the Hajj quota case continued to experience positive developments.
Investigators are still collecting evidence to ensure that all parties who have benefited illegally in this case can be held accountable.
