Nadiem Asks For Schools To Open In July, Deputy Governor Of DKI: We Don't Want To Take The Wrong Policy

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim asked local governments to open schools and implement face-to-face learning (PTM) in July.

Responding to this, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said that the DKI Provincial Government has not yet decided to implement PTM in all schools in the capital city or not, in the upcoming new academic year.

"Of course, we don't want to take the wrong policy. Even if it is possible face-to-face we will carry out checks, research that is more comprehensive, more in-depth, more thorough, and pays attention to possible impacts," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Friday, June 4th.

Riza said the DKI Provincial Government will conduct evaluations, meetings with Forkopimda, epidemiologists, the Central Task Force to decide whether to implement PTM in July.

Moreover, in recent times, the mobility of residents is still quite high due to the Eid homecoming and gathering activities. According to him, in Jakarta a new variant of COVID-19 has emerged.

"We have indeed carried out trials, previous assessments and thank God it was successful. Later we will see if it is possible to increase the number of limited trials or later face-to-face trials have not been decided.

Previously, Nadiem launched the Guide to Implementation of Learning for Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education (PAUDdikdasmen) during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Minister of Education and Technology Nadiem Makarim admitted that there are still a number of schools that are afraid to hold face-to-face learning (PTM) on a limited basis due to COVID-19.

In fact, there are still schools in areas with green zones or without any cases of COVID-19 that have not opened their schools even though they have been allowed to.

"I can understand the concerns of mothers and fathers as teachers, educators, and parents in particular, regarding the health and safety of our children," said Nadiem at the virtual launch of the guide.

However, Nadiem asked all parties to be aware of the shortcomings of the online learning system. Where, the students are not able to absorb the learning material in its entirety.

"We also need to remember the risks if we don't start limited PTM immediately. We also need to remember the long-term impact of these risks," said Nadiem.
