Even though the Zebra Cross "Pac-Man" is Creative, Pramono: There are Rules to Play
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to the action of residents who made a zebra cross voluntarily and decorated with the Pac-Man game character on Jalan Prof. Dr. Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta.
Pramono appreciated the creativity of the community who had the initiative to draw their own road crossing facilities that were previously empty on the side of the road. However, Pramono emphasized that the installation of zebra cross has its own rules.
"For the zebra cross, the creativity of the residents, I thank you. It's just that the zebra cross also has its own rules. In my opinion, this is a positive creativity, so that what is now happening on the field we perfect again," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, March 31.
Pramono emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government would restore the provision of zebra cross at the location in accordance with the applicable provisions.
"We return to the rules that have been regulated for zebra crossings. It does have rules and it applies nationally, not only nationally, internationally. We appreciate the creative friends, but we have to return this to what has become the rules about zebra crossings," said Pramono.
Pramono realized that the initiative of residents who painted the zebra cross with the Pac-Man motif was motivated by their distress due to the loss of pedestrian facilities since a year ago.
Therefore, he apologized because the DKI Provincial Government only reacted after the zebra cross went viral on social media. "We apologize for that. And that's why I say that the creativity of the people I say thank you and respect," he continued.
Previously, the action of residents who made a zebra cross with the Pac-Man game character on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta, went viral on social media. The action was taken because residents considered the crossing facility at the location to be inadequate, because the zebra cross was only available on one side of the road.
Zebra cross drawing volunteer, Rafli Zulkarnaen or Ijoel, admitted that they took this action after the report of the disappearance of the facility did not receive a response on the JAKI application for more than a year.
"Residents have reported through JAKI and to the sub-district since a year ago, but they have been silent. It is the turn of the residents to act and go viral, only to talk about the rules. Don't 'be aware of yourself' just because it is viral," said volunteer Rafli Zulkarnaen or Ijoel, Monday, March 30.
He said that initially, in the area near the Bukit Moria Tebet GPIB, paving was being carried out as an effort to repair the road in 2025.
After the paving is completed, it is hoped that the zebra cross will be made again as a road mark, especially considering that the location is close to the Transjakarta bus stop, church, school and Tebet District office.
However, the road markings have not been made, so residents have submitted their complaints through various official channels, including JAKI, since 2025, but there has been no response or follow-up at all.
"The paving is only on the front side of the church, and after that, the road markings or zebra cross are completely gone, they are not installed again for more than a year," said Ijoel.
