KPK Targets Three Corruption-prone Sectors in Central Java, Following the OTT of Regional Heads

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is now tightening supervision in Central Java by targeting three crucial sectors that are considered most prone to corruption practices. This step includes supervision at the provincial level to districts/cities as a response to the dynamics of bureaucracy in the region which is under sharp scrutiny.

The Deputy for Coordination and Supervision of the KPK, Ely Kusumastuti, detailed that the three sectors that were the main focus were budget planning, procurement of goods and services, and the practice of buying and selling positions. Unlike the previous approach, this time the KPK implemented a sharper prevention strategy by conducting in-depth substance, not just administrative monitoring or procedural formalities alone.

"If in the past we focused on administrative discussions and evaluation monitoring, this time it was done with an in-depth substance," said Ely, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 31.

This firm step was taken to ensure that every policy and program of the regional government is not only compliant with the rules, but also completely free from conflicts of interest. The KPK gives a stern warning to all regional heads in Central Java that the use of state funds is entirely oriented towards public interest, not for practical political interests or personal gains that are detrimental to the people.

"Don't let us use state funds for political or personal interests," Ely reminded policy makers.

This tightening of supervision is very relevant considering that the Central Java Provincial Government has just invited the leadership of the KPK to provide training to regional heads and DPRD on March 30, 2026. This momentum follows a series of Operation Capture Hands (OTT) actions that ensnared three regional heads in Central Java, namely Bupati Pati Sudewo, Bupati Pekalongan Fadia Arafiq, and Bupati Cilacap Syamsul Auliya Rachman.

Through this strengthening of coordination, the KPK hopes that the practice of irregularities in the Central Java region can be significantly suppressed.
