Beware! BMKG Warns of Potential Heavy Rain in West Java and South Sulawesi

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most of the provincial capital areas in Indonesia will be hit by light rain on Tuesday, March 31.

BMKG Medayu Bestari Praktirawan menyampaikan, diawali dari Pulau Sumatra, Kota Tanjung Pinang diprakirakan berawan tebal, sedangkan Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, dan Pangkal Pinang akan diguyur hujan ringan.

"Be aware of rain that may be accompanied by lightning in the Jambi and Palembang areas," said Medayu, quoted by Antara.

Turning to Java, the weather in all provincial capitals is predicted to be light rain, ranging from Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, to Surabaya.

Then for the Kalimantan region, Pontianak City has the potential for heavy clouds, while light intensity rain will fall on Palangkaraya, Tanjung Selor, and Samarinda.

"Be aware of lightning that can hit Banjarmasin City," said Medayu.

Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in the Denpasar area, heavy clouds in Kupang, and moderate intensity rain in the Mataram area.

Then for Sulawesi Island, Manado City will be covered by thick clouds, while Gorontalo, Palu, and Kendari will be showered with light rain. Moderate rain is predicted to hit the Mamuju and Makassar areas.

For the Maluku and North Maluku regions, Ternate is predicted to be thick clouds, while Ambon City will be light rain.

Meanwhile, for the Papua region, light rain will fall on Sorong City, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya.

"Merauke City will be showered with moderate intensity rain," said Medayu.

BMKG also reminded the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in West Java and West Sulawesi.
