Iran Confirms IRGC Navy Commander Komodor Tangsiri Died Due to Serious Injuries
JAKARTA - The Iranian government on Monday confirmed that the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, Commodore Alireza Tangsiri, was killed due to serious injuries.
Iran's statement came days after Israel said it had targeted it in an air strike
The confirmation came in a statement carried by Iranian state media, which said Tangsiri died from the severity of his injuries.
A statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, read on state television and reported by IRNA and Sepah News, said Tangsiri "joined the ranks of God due to the severity of his injuries," quoted by Turkiye Today (30/3).
It added that Komodor Tangsiri "died from severe wounds" suffered in the attack.
The statement praised the role of Admiral Tangsiri, particularly in efforts related to Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz.
"Every fighter is a Tangsiri, and we will see what surprises they will bring in the coming days and months," the statement said.
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday last week claimed that Commander Tangsiri was killed in an air strike along with all senior naval command officials in the southern city of Bandar Abbas, according to local media, saying that the Iranian commander was responsible for the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, quoted from Anadolu.
On the same day, the United States Central Command (US CENTCOM) also confirmed the death of Komodor Tangsiri.
Since the start of the US-Israeli joint attack on Iran on February 28, Israel has announced the killing of several high-ranking Iranian officials, including supreme leader Ali Khamenei and the influential head of state security, Ali Larijani, quoted by Al Arabiya.
In recent days, Israeli forces have carried out several attacks targeting Iranian naval assets.
Israeli airstrikes hit several Iranian naval vessels in the Caspian Sea, including a vessel equipped with a missile system, a support vessel, and a patrol vessel.
