Not Responding to JAKI, Tebet Residents Picture Re-Zebra Cross
JAKARTA - Residents redraw the crossing (zebra cross) in the Tebet area, South Jakarta, after the report of the disappearance of the facility did not receive a response on the JAKI application for more than a year.
"Residents have reported through JAKI and to the sub-district for the past year, but they have been silent. It's time for residents to 'wake up' because they are viral," said volunteer Rafli Zulkarnaen, quoting ANTARA, Monday, March 30, 2026.
He said that initially, in the area near the Bukit Moria Tebet GPIB, paving was being carried out as an effort to repair the road in 2025.
After the paving is completed, it is hoped that the zebra cross will be made again as a road mark, especially considering that the location is close to the Transjakarta bus stop, church, school and Tebet District office.
However, the road markings have not been made, so residents have submitted their complaints through various official channels, including JAKI, since 2025, but there has been no response or follow-up at all.
"The paving is only on the front side of the church, and after that, the road markings or zebra cross are completely gone, they are not installed again for more than a year," said Ijoel.
He assessed that the absence of zebra cross raised questions about the continuation of road facility arrangements after the physical repair was completed.
According to him, the existence of zebra cross is an important part of road user safety, especially pedestrians in areas with high activity.
Ijoel considered that the improvement of road infrastructure should be followed by the restoration of supporting facilities in a comprehensive manner so that the function of the road remains optimal and safe for all users.
"We as citizens don't want to know which department it is, the important thing is that the facilities we need are there and safe. Moreover, there is a blind spot at the turn, it is very dangerous if there is no marker for pedestrians," said Ijoel.
Furthermore, he said the slow response to citizen reports also showed the need for improvements in the system for handling public complaints, especially regarding road safety facilities.
Therefore, he partnered with content creators (content creators) who are also artists to redraw the zebra cross with the "Pac-Man" game character. The action was then shared via the Instagram social media @ijoeel.
Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office appreciates the concern and initiative of the community who have painted the road which is functioned as a zebra cross on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta.
However, the DKI Transportation Office said that the creation of road markings, including zebra crossings, must refer to the provisions of laws and regulations as well as applicable technical standards.
"This is important to ensure the safety aspects of all road users, both pedestrians and motor vehicle drivers, and to prevent potential distractions that can interfere with driving concentration," said Kapusdatin of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office, Siti Dinarwenny.
He explained that the absence of zebra crossings at the location occurred due to the periodic maintenance of roads and the construction/improvement of sidewalks at the end of 2025, so that the existing zebra cross markings were covered by a new asphalt layer.
The reinstallation of road markings, said Siti, cannot be done directly after paving, because the thermoplastic marking material requires a road surface condition that has gone through the optimal drying period so that it can adhere well and have maximum durability.
As a follow-up, the DKI Transportation Office has designated the location as a priority in the 2026 road marking maintenance plan, including the reconstruction of the zebra cross facility in the near future.
