BYD Targets 1.5 Million Car Exports in 2026
JAKARTA - Competition on the global automotive stage is heating up. The Shenzhen-based new energy vehicle (NEV) giant, BYD, has just sent a very clear "war" signal to its competitors around the world.
Not just a regular expansion, BYD officially raised their overseas sales target for 2026 to a fantastic figure: 1.5 million vehicles.
The figure of 1.5 million units does not appear for no reason. This is an increase of 15 percent from the initial target announced last January of 1.3 million units. This aggressive step is taken as a "protective fence" (hiring) strategy against domestic market fluctuations, as well as strengthening their dominance in the international market.
Launching CNEVPost, Monday, March 30, the news that most shook the industry was BYD's success in overtaking its biggest rival, Tesla. In 2025, BYD's sales of battery-based electric passenger vehicles (BEV) reached a record 2.25 million units.
This figure officially places BYD at the top of the global BEV sector, surpassing Tesla which recorded sales of around 1.63 million vehicles in the same period.
With a target of 1.5 million exports, BYD is predicted to release more massive new models with cutting-edge battery technology and competitive prices in various parts of the world, including strengthening their grip on the rapidly growing Southeast Asian market.
