DeepSeek Down for 7 Hours! China's AI Chatbot Suffers Worst Disruption Since Going Viral
JAKARTA - The artificial intelligence chatbot owned by the Chinese company, DeepSeek, has experienced the longest operational disruption since its popularity exploded in early 2025. This incident has come under the spotlight amid high global expectations for the development of generative AI technology from the Bamboo Curtain Country.
Based on the company's official status page, the chatbot service experienced a "major outage" for 7 hours and 13 minutes, starting from early morning until 10.33 local time. This disruption has an impact on user access who cannot use the main service, including direct interaction with their flagship model.
The Biggest Disruption Since the R1 and V3 Model Era
This disruption is the worst since the launch of flagship models such as DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3, which went viral and drove a surge in users globally. Previously, the chatbot page for general users had never experienced an outage of more than two hours, indicating that the scale of this incident was much more significant.
However, the company did not provide an official explanation regarding the cause of the disruption. In general, incidents of this kind can be triggered by various factors, ranging from server problems to bugs due to system updates.
DeepSeek's internal data also shows that its API service - which developers use to integrate chatbots into other applications - was down for days in January 2025, just as its popularity was peaking.
Until now, the global AI industry is still waiting for the arrival of the latest generation model from DeepSeek. However, the company has not given an indication of when the update will be released, adding uncertainty amid the increasingly heated competition in AI technology.
