MUI strongly condemns Israel's attack that killed TNI soldiers in Lebanon
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) expressed deep condolences and strong condemnation for the death of a TNI soldier who was part of the UN peacekeeping mission (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. The soldier died as a result of an attack launched by the Israeli military in the assignment area.
Chairman of the MUI for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, stated that this action was a serious violation of international law.
Deep Sorrow for the Peacemaker
On behalf of the MUI family, Prof. Sudarnoto conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the soldiers who were left behind.
"May Allah SWT give fortitude, patience, and inner strength to the deceased's family, and accept all his deeds and place him in the best place," said Prof. Sudarnoto in his official statement, Monday (30/3/2026).
MUI emphasized that the attack on UN peacekeepers was a clear proof that the Israeli military was increasingly ignoring universal humanitarian norms. Peacekeepers are present with an international mandate to maintain stability, not to be the target of violence.
"This attack is a tangible form of an attitude that is increasingly disregarding international law. This is a serious violation that cannot be tolerated," he said.
Geopolitical Impact and Global Threats
Politically and diplomatically, MUI considers this incident to carry a message of danger for stability in the Middle East. This attack is considered to be able to:
Triggering Escalation of Conflict: Potentially dragging international actors into a greater vortex of tension. Weaken Multilateralism: It is a form of weakening the world's collective efforts to maintain peace. Threaten the Security of Contributors: It provides a high risk for countries that send peacekeepers to conflict areas.4 Points of MUI's Firm Appeal
Regarding this tragedy, MUI issued an official appeal to the parties concerned:
Indonesian government: Immediately take firm diplomatic steps both bilaterally and multilaterally to demand Israel's accountability. MUI also suggests that the government consider withdrawing from Indonesia's membership in the BoP (Balance of Payments). UN: Urge an independent, transparent, and accountable investigation, and impose firm sanctions on perpetrators of violations. International Society: Ask the world not to be silent about actions that hurt humanitarian values. Indonesian Muslims & People: Ask for prayers for the victims and strengthen world humanitarian solidarity.MUI emphasized that world peace would never be realized without respect for international law and justice. All forms of aggression must be stopped in order to maintain global stability.
