Incident at LebaRun 2026, PP ALTI Mourns and Calls for Evaluation of Trail Running Safety

JAKARTA - The trail running community in the country is in mourning with the incident that took the life of a participant at LebaRun, Saturday, March 28, 2026.

This was also responded to by the Ketum of the Indonesian Trail Running Association (PP ALTI), Dr. Bima Arya Sugiarto.

"As the Chairman of the Indonesian Trail Running Association Central Board and representing the community of trail running achievement sports in Indonesia, I express my deep condolences for the death of one of the participants at LebaRun."

"May the deceased be accepted by the best side of God Almighty and the family left behind be given strength," said Bima Arya.

Bima Arya invited all parties, especially event organizers, to conduct an evaluation in terms of safety.

"This grief and loss requires us to evaluate, especially in terms of security and safety. PP ALTI is always ready to provide assistance to every trail running race in Indonesia."

"Of course we hope that there will be no more victims who fall as a result of running the trail," he said, opening the widest possible collaboration space for all race organizers.

Apart from the plan to provide assistance to each race, PP ALTI will also evaluate all trail running race events, especially in terms of safety, without exception.

"PP ALTI is committed to being present to realize zero accidents in trail running, the safety of participants is the most important," said Bima Arya.

The highest sports regulation in Indonesia, namely Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning Sports, in Article 54 Paragraph (1), states that "the holding of sports championships that directly bring in mass audiences must obtain recommendations from the parent organization of the sports branch concerned".

This means that trail run organizers must also actively communicate and coordinate with the PP ALTI. The assistance and recommendations of the PP ALTI are expected to be considered by the police in granting permission.

Every organizer must be fully responsible for the safety of participants even if it requires participants' independence.
