Two Tanah Abang thugs arrested after beating a goods transport driver

Two perpetrators of blackmail and extortion against a goods transport driver in Kebon Kacang, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta have been arrested by members of the Metro Tanah Abang Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Meanwhile, another one is still at large.

The arrest of the two perpetrators was carried out after the viral action of blackmail and extortion was carried out by three perpetrators while riding motorbikes.

The incident was recorded on the dashboard camera of the victim's car. The three perpetrators who were riding on a motorcycle suddenly stopped the vehicle and asked the victim for Rp. 100 thousand.

The victim had offered to give Rp. 50 thousand. However, the perpetrator immediately took the money and e-Money card from the dashboard of the car.

The victim also got off and took the money from the hands of one of the perpetrators. However, the perpetrator resisted and continued to intimidate the victim.

The video recording was then uploaded on social media and went viral. Finding the viral video, the Metro Tanah Abang Police Criminal Investigation Unit immediately chased the perpetrators.

As a result, two perpetrators were arrested less than a day after the incident.

Head of the Tanah Abang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Ikhsan Rangga, said his party immediately followed up on the viral video in the Tanah Abang area, especially the video of gangsterism or extortion against one of the residents who passed by.

"Two perpetrators were arrested in less than 1x24 hours. The two perpetrators, initials MNR and N, are currently being developed," he said when confirmed, Monday, March 30, 2026.

Meanwhile, drivers who are victims of similar extortion are urged to make a police report to carry out further legal processes.

"For now, we have asked for information from the 2 people in the video on behalf of MNR and N. MNR and R. MNR and R. are correct in the video and we are still looking for one person (fugitive)," he said.
