PP Tunas Berlaku, DKI Provincial Government Tightens the Use of Gawai in Schools
JAKARTA - The government has officially enacted Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Protection of Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) starting March 28, 2026. This rule limits children's access to a number of digital platforms that are considered high-risk.
In the initial phase, restrictions were imposed on eight platforms, namely YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
Following up on this policy, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Education Office (Disdik) will adjust the rules for using gadgets in school environments. This adjustment refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Number 9 of 2026 which came into force on the same day.
"With the implementation of the Decree of the Minister of Communication and Information No. 9/2026 starting today (March 28, 2026), the Education Office will immediately adjust and strengthen the guidelines," said Special Staff for the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim to reporters, Sunday, March 29.
The reinforcement includes technical rules for teachers and principals in supervising the use of gadgets by students during learning activities. Among them: - Restrict the use of gadgets during class hours (except for approved learning purposes).
- Collect student devices in a special place provided by the school.
- Increase supervision, assistance, and socialization of digital space risks to students.
- Encourage more meaningful offline activities.
Furthermore, the Education Office is also preparing a derivative regulation in the form of a circular letter to ensure that this policy can be implemented uniformly in all educational units.
"Disdik will issue a follow-up guide or circular adjustment in the near future so that implementation in schools is more structured, in line with national regulations, and continues to support a conducive learning process and maintain student mental health," said Chico.
Apart from schools, the DKI Provincial Government has prepared cross-sectoral steps to support the implementation of digital access restrictions for children. Coordination is carried out with a number of related departments, including Diskominfotik.
A number of concrete steps are also being prepared to strengthen supervision and assistance, not only in schools but also in the family and community environment.
Among them are mass socialization to parents, schools, RT/RW communities, and the community through the official channel of the Provincial Government, social media, and public forums. Then, coordination with digital platforms to ensure compliance in the Jakarta area. Then, strengthening family digital literacy, so that online restrictions are balanced with more active parental guidance.
"We see this regulation as an opportunity to encourage children to be more active in the real world, namely learning, playing, and socializing in a healthy way," said Chico.
Previously, the DKI Education Office had previously issued Circular Letter Number e-0001/SE/2026 in January 2026 which regulates the wise use of gadgets in the educational environment, ranging from PAUD to SMA.
In line with digital access restrictions, the DKI Provincial Government has also prepared to strengthen offline activity facilities as an alternative for children. This effort is carried out through the development of public spaces and community-based programs.
"We invite all parents, teachers, and the community to support this implementation wisely," he added.
