Viral Warga Buat Zebra Cross 'Pac-Man' di Tebet, Pemprov DKI Ingatkan Tak Bisa Sembarangan
JAKARTA - A video of residents who made a zebra cross with the Pac-Man game character on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta, went viral on social media. The action was taken because residents considered the crossing facility at the location to be inadequate, because the zebra cross was only available on one side of the road.
Responding to this, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office expressed its appreciation for the community's concern for pedestrian safety.
However, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Data and Information Center, Siti Dinarwenny, emphasized that the creation of zebra crossings cannot be done carelessly and must still follow the applicable rules.
"We need to convey that the creation of road markings, including zebra crossings, must refer to the provisions of laws and regulations as well as applicable technical standards," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Data and Information Center, Siti Dinarwenny, in a statement, Sunday, March 29.
According to him, the standard is important to ensure the safety of all road users, both pedestrians and drivers.
"This is important to ensure the safety aspects of all road users, both pedestrians and motor vehicle drivers, and to prevent potential distractions that can interfere with driving concentration," said Wenny.
The Road Construction Agency admitted that there was no zebra cross at that point. This condition, said Wenny, was the result of infrastructure work carried out previously.
Wenny explained that the old mark was covered due to the process of repaving the road and arranging the sidewalk at the end of 2025.
"This condition occurs due to the periodic maintenance of roads and the construction/improvement of sidewalks at the end of 2025, which causes the existing zebra cross mark to be covered by a new asphalt layer," he said.
In addition, the reinstallation of road markings cannot be done immediately after the paving is completed.
"It should be noted that the reinstallation of road markings cannot be carried out directly after paving, because the thermoplastic marking material requires a road surface condition that has gone through the optimal drying period so that it can adhere well and have maximum durability," he said.
As a follow-up, Bina Marga ensures that the location has been included in the priority handling this year, including the reconstruction of the zebra cross facility. The implementation of the work is planned to be carried out in the near future using road marking materials in accordance with the applicable technical standards.
