Student Use of Medsos, Batang Regency Instructs Teachers to Give Restrictions

JAKARTA - The Batang Regency Government, Central Java, has instructed educators or teachers to provide education in limiting the use of social media or gadgets for children so that they do not become spoiled and lazy to study.

Deputy Regent of Batang Suyono in Batang, Saturday, said that children must grow up intelligently with the modern world but also need restrictions on using gadgets to prevent seeing negative video content.

"The reduction or use of gadgets is actually not entirely negative. However, through education, what needs to be watched and what is not for children at the elementary school level or adolescents," he said.

He said the regency was preparing a policy to support the implementation of the law and its derivative regulations, namely Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of the Electronic System.

In fact, he said, the Regent of Batang also immediately issued a circular letter about the regulation with the aim of teachers to be careful and provide protection for students so that they do not become addicted to digitalization, whether it is images or others that cannot be controlled by parents.

"Here, education is what can provide limits for children. To the parents or school principals, we hope to form a discussion forum to control the activities of children," he said.

"According to him, the task of controlling children is not entirely the responsibility of the school but the role of parents is very important in this matter because they are close to their sons and daughters.

He appreciated the educational activities carried out by the pesantren who did not allow the students to use cell phones.

"Therefore, we want to see how state schools can implement this so that children are not allowed to carry mobile phones," he said.
