ODC Task Force Captures 4 People in the Supply Chain of Firearms and Ammunition to KKB
JAKARTA - The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force is trying to dismantle the network of suppliers of firearms and ammunition to armed criminal groups or KKB in Papua.
Efforts are being made to break the chain of distribution of firearms and ammunition to the KKB.
"Currently, four people have been detained and named as suspects related to the network of suppliers of firearms and ammunition to the KKB," said Head of Operations of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Inspector General Faizal Rahmadani, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, March 28.
The arrest of the four perpetrators was carried out in stages starting Wednesday (25/3) to Thursday (26/3) around Jayapura Regency.
The four people arrested were initials KO (45), SMM (40), HM (53), and AKW (51). They have been named as suspects under Article 306 juncto Article 20 of the Criminal Code which regulates illegal possession of weapons.
From the statements of the suspects, it was revealed that they had different roles, such as three suspects, namely KO, SMM, and AKW, who played the role of intermediaries or facilitators in the illegal ammunition transaction. Meanwhile, the suspect HM played the role of a provider or seller of ammunition.
The arrest was part of the development of an investigation into a previous case that was also related to a network of illegal distribution of weapons and ammunition in several areas of Papua.
"Investigators are still intensively deepening to uncover the wider network," said Faizal.
He added that when arresting the suspects, the ODC Task Force team also secured a number of evidence in the form of communication devices, vehicles, and homemade firearms that were allegedly used in the illegal activities.
"The ODC Task Force will continue to take firm action against illegal weapons and ammunition circulation networks that have the potential to disrupt security stability in Papua," said Faizal.
