KM 57 & 62 Rest Area Japek Toll to be repaired by the PU Ministry, why?
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) plans to carry out arrangements at the KM 57 and KM 62 rest areas of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road (Japek).
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the rest area at the Japek Toll still needs to be arranged in terms of access and layout.
This was stated by Dody after directly reviewing the readiness for the implementation of the national one-way traffic engineering for the 2026 Lebaran return flow on the Trans Java Toll Road, today, March 28, 2026.
"(Rest areas KM 57 and KM 62 Jakarta-Cikampek Toll) we will rearrange. After the return flow, we will form a special team to improve the layout and access," Dody said in a written statement, Saturday, March 28, 2026.
According to Dody, the rearrangement of the KM 57 and KM 62 rest areas of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road needs to be carried out in order to reduce the potential for vehicle density, especially when entering the peak period of Lebaran homecoming and return.
Not only on the toll road, said Dody, his party will also make arrangements gradually in other rest areas.
"This arrangement will also be carried out gradually in other rest areas, especially those with limited facilities, in order to prevent the accumulation of vehicles on the shoulders of the road that could potentially endanger road users," he said.
It is known that the implementation of the national one-way is planned to apply from the Kalikangkung Toll Gate (GT) to the Main Gate of the KM 70 Japek Toll Road, with the implementation time being situational based on real-time monitoring by toll road operators and the National Police.
"The time of implementation is determined by the results of monitoring. So, it really matches the conditions on the ground," he said.
During the review, Dody also emphasized the importance of maintaining the condition of the toll road to remain in a state of functional during the period of homecoming and return, including accelerating the handling of road damage.
"If there is a hole, it will be handled immediately. Maximum 1 × 24 hours must have been patched so as not to interfere with the return flow," he said.
The Ministry of PU through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) together with the Toll Road Business Agency (BUJT) continues to carry out intensive monitoring on all Trans Java Toll sections, from Merak to Semarang. Then, ensure quick handling at weather-affected points and high traffic volumes.
Based on the data of the Lebaran 2026 service evaluation to the H+6 period (March 28, 2026), the volume of vehicles leaving Jakarta was recorded at 3.53 million units or increased by 1.8 percent compared to last year. Meanwhile, vehicles returning to Jakarta reached 3.39 million units.
Traffic performance on the return flow also showed improvement, with the average speed increasing by 4 percent to 83.68 km per hour and the Semarang-Jakarta travel time shorter by about 3.8 percent to 5 hours 12 minutes.
This reflects a more controlled distribution of traffic flows through various engineering schemes and policy support.
According to him, the implementation of the Lebaran homecoming and return flow this year in general runs relatively smoother than the previous year.
"Thanks to the synergy of various parties, starting from the readiness of infrastructure, traffic arrangements to the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy, which helps distribute people's travel time," said Dody.
