Fuel prices soar in Britain, gas stations experience supply disruption

JAKARTA - A number of gas stations in the UK are experiencing temporary supply constraints as fuel prices rise due to global supply disruptions and demand spikes.

Since the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, traffic in the Strait of Hormuz - a key global energy trade route - has almost come to a standstill, straining supplies and driving up oil and gas prices.

In the UK, petrol is now priced at 1.5 pounds (about Rp33,800) per liter, up around 15 percent compared to before the war. While the price of diesel reached 1.77 pounds per liter.

Asda CEO Allan Leighton said a "small number" of its petrol stations were experiencing temporary issues.

"We are seeing very high demand due to price volatility," Leighton said, adding that fuel sales volumes have increased significantly.

"Demand has exceeded supply. Supply is tight, and we are working hard to overcome it. This disruption is temporary, although it may continue during the delivery period," he said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, March 28.

Tensions in the Middle East have been rising since the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28.

Iran then launched retaliatory attacks on Israel as well as a number of areas hosting US military assets in Jordan, Iraq, and the Gulf countries.
