Police Chief Reveals the Motive for the Stabbing in Tarakan, Police Act Quickly to Secure the Perpetrator

TARAKAN - The stabbing case that killed a resident in the city of Tarakan, North Kalimantan (Kaltara), was revealed by the police.

The Head of the Kaltara Police, Inspector General of Police Djati Wiyoto Abadimengatakan, the alleged perpetrator was secured less than 24 hours after the incident.

"This oenikaman incident occurred on Friday (27/3/2026) evening, from the results of the preliminary investigation, this case is related to drugs. The perpetrators have been successfully secured in less than 24 hours," said Inspector General Djati, Saturday (28/3/2026).

The Police Chief revealed that the rapid arrest was carried out as a form of police response to prevent potential wider conflicts in the community. The reason is that the incident had triggered a reaction from a number of groups of residents.

"One of them came from the Timor tribe community who on the night of the incident came to the Tarakan Police to ask for clarity regarding the handling of the case," he said.

"The handling of this case has been carried out by the Tarakan Police with the support of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditkrimum) and the Narcotics Investigation Directorate (Ditreskoba) of the North Kalimantan Police.

The Police Chief emphasized that his party would process the perpetrators according to applicable laws and ensure that the security situation and public order were maintained.

"We appeal to the public not to be easily provoked. Trust the police to handle this case," said Djati.

"Currently, the security situation in Tarakan City is reported to be gradually conducive. The police are still carrying out security and monitoring to prevent potential disturbances to kamtibmas," he concluded.
