Police Arrest Suspected Murderer on Murai Street in Tarakan City

TARAKAN - The police moved quickly to uncover the case of abuse that led to death on Jalan Murai, RT 10, Karang Rejo Village, West Tarakan. In a short time, the alleged perpetrator was arrested after the incident that killed a man with the initials A (41), Friday (27/3/2026) evening.

Head of Public Relations of the Kaltara Police, Kombes Slamet Wahyudi revealed that the tragic incident occurred in front of SDN 018 Karang Rejo at around 18.37 WITA.

"The Tarakan city police have examined and the testimony of witnesses at the scene, this started from a commotion and a verbal altercation that was heard from outside the residents' house," said Kombes Slamet, Saturday (28/3/2026).

Then, the witness saw one of the suspected perpetrators carrying a sharp weapon of the type badik and the victim was already in a state of falling near his Honda Scoopy motorcycle.

"Two suspected perpetrators immediately fled after the incident," he said.

He explained that residents who saw the incident tried to provide assistance by bringing the victim to Karang Rejo Health Center using a motorcycle.

"The victim was declared dead on the way to the health facility," he explained.

Slamet added that the results of the external visum conducted by forensic doctors at the Jusuf SK Hospital showed serious stab wounds to the right abdomen of the victim with a depth of about 13 centimeters (cm) and a length of 2 cm.

"It is suspected that the sharp weapon hit the vital organs, causing the victim to run out of oxygen," he said.

After receiving the report, a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit, Intelkam, and Samapta Tarakan Police with the West Tarakan Police immediately moved to the location. The police carried out an investigation of the crime scene (TKP) and secured a number of evidence, including CCTV footage around the location.

"It didn't take long, the officers managed to secure one of the suspected perpetrators along with evidence in the form of a machete complete with its sheath. The perpetrator was then taken to the Tarakan Police to undergo an intensive examination," said Slamet.

"Investigators are still developing the case, including hunting down another perpetrator who had fled," he concluded.

It is known that the perpetrator was charged with Article 466 Paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, regarding the crime of persecution which resulted in death. The Tarakan Police also appealed to the public to remain calm and entrust the handling of the case entirely to the police. The apparatus also appreciates the active role of the citizens who quickly provide information so that the perpetrators can be immediately secured.
