A Male Deer Wandering on the Osaka Highway Was Successfully Evacuated to a Camping Area

JAKARTA - A wild deer that was seen for several days in Osaka City, was successfully secured and moved to a camping area in the prefecture.

The Russian was seen in a residential park area in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture since last Saturday, quoted from NHW World (28/3).

According to the Osaka City Government, the deer was spotted in Tsurumi and Joto Districts on Saturday, in Miyakojima District on Sunday, and in Joto District on Tuesday, Kyodo News reported.

Local authorities then managed to capture the deer in the courtyard of the police facility in Joto District by luring it into a cage with bait and taken to the animal control center on Wednesday.

Osaka Mayor Yokoyama Hideyuki said the deer was safe and a facility in Osaka Prefecture said it would accept the animal.

Its sudden appearance has raised suspicions that the deer may have come from Nara Park, a popular tourist spot known for more than a thousand wild deer, in Nara Prefecture, which borders Osaka Prefecture.

However, Nara Governor Makoto Yamashita told a news conference Wednesday morning he would not accept the release of deer captured in the wild in Nara Prefecture.

It is understood that deer in Nara Park and its surroundings are protected species. However, deer outside the area are considered wildlife, similar to bears and wild boars, under the law on the protection and management of wildlife.

A privately managed campground in Osaka Prefecture later agreed to accept the deer. At 13:30 local time, the deer was taken out of the city and arrived at the campground before 16:00 local time.

He was then taken to a fenced area, before slowly walking out of the cage used to carry him and immediately grazing.

The president of a spa resort that manages the campground said Osaka City officials contacted him to accept the animal, because the resort had kept deer on its land until a few years ago.

He said he was happy to get the offer and hoped to provide a safe and stress-free place for the deer.
