Strengthen the Electrification Segment, Kia Starts Production of EV2 in Europe
JAKARTA - Kia officially started production of the EV2, a second electric vehicle from the South Korean brand that will be assembled in Europe. This step is part of the company's strategy for the electrification segment in the region.
"Starting production for EV2 continues to verify our technical capabilities and flexibility in Europe," said President and CEO of Kia Europe, Soohang Chang, quoted from the official website, Friday, March 27.
Furthermore, he said, when EV4 began production last August, the company showed the ability to produce models and fully electric cars with hybrid and internal combustion powertrains side by side. Now adding EV2, the output from our Slovakian plant will better support Kia's electrification strategy in Europe.
"We have prepared the process for the local production of EVs when preparing for the launch of EV4 production," said Tomáš Potoček, a spokesman for Kia Slovakia. "With our skilled workforce and hundreds of robots supported by advanced manufacturing technology, EV2 is starting to be assembled as we speak," he added.
Back to the Kia EV2, this car will enliven the B segment SUV and its presence makes electric mobility more accessible, helping customers transition with confidence.
The model is offered with two battery options, 42.2 kWh and 61.0 kWh presenting an anticipated range of up to 317 and 453 kilometers (WLTP). Flexible charging options, including 400V DC fast charging, 11 kW AC charging, and 22 kW AC charging, support urban travel and longer journeys, while connected services, such as EV route planning, Plug & Charge functions, and bidirectional charging, simplify ownership.
EV2 offers the best of Kia for the modern European lifestyle. Designed to serve as the household's main car, EV2 focuses on everyday usability.
Its compact size still offers ample legroom, sliding and reclining rear seats, and a cargo capacity of up to 403 liters. Kia's three-screen display option, Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, and comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) exceed expectations for the segment.
