Strong Wind Makes it Difficult for Ships to Rest on the Ketapang Port Pier

BANYUWANGI - The Coordinator of the Ketapang Crossing Port Service Unit, Banyuwangi at the East Java Class II Land Transportation Management Office, Bayu Kusumo Nugroho, stated that several ferry boats had difficulty docking at the pier due to wind speeds reaching 23 knots.

"Today (H+5 Lebaran 2026) the wind speed since 09.00 WIB has reached 23 knots, so the ships have difficulty when they will lean for loading and unloading activities," he said, Friday, March 27, reported by ANTARA.

Bayu said the Land Transportation Management Office (BPTD) was intensively coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for the safety of navigation during the 2026 Lebaran return flow.

The weather with wind speeds reaching 23 knots in the Bali Strait crossing today, he continued, the ferry is still able to operate to serve travelers who will cross to Bali Island through Ketapang Port. The safe limit of wind speed for ships docked at the pier is 15-20 knots.

"The wind speed of 23 knots makes it difficult for the ship to lean and takes 10 to 15 minutes. We will continue to monitor, and BMKG will evaluate every three hours for wind speed development," said Bayu.

Users of the service are asked to follow the instructions of officers in the field, and if weather conditions do not allow and the wind speed reaches 30 knots, the sailing will be delayed.

"All ship operators also follow the directions from the port," said Bayu.

Meanwhile, data from the Ketapang Port Eid Transportation Post, in the H+4 Eid period or March 26, 2026 for 24 hours from 00.00 to 23.59 WIB, the number of ship trips at Ketapang Port was 213 trips.

The total realization of passengers crossing from Java to Bali on H+4 Lebaran reached 43,963 people or down 7.1 percent compared to the realization of the same period last year of 47,343 people.

Meanwhile, two-wheeled vehicles that have crossed from Ketapang to Gilimanuk reached 7,635 units or down 6.7 percent compared to the realization of the previous year which reached 8,185 units.
