Trump Delays Attack on Iran's Energy Infrastructure until April 6
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump has extended the delay of plans to attack Iran's energy infrastructure by 10 days to April 6, 2026.
The decision also effectively delays the deadline Trump gave Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the same date.
As reported by ANTARA from Kyodo, Friday, March 27, Trump also wrote on social media that talks with Iran "are going very well", although a day earlier Tehran rejected the US ceasefire proposal.
The extension, which Trump said was requested by the Iranian government, followed his decision on Monday to delay an attack on an Iranian power plant for five days, after previously threatening to destroy it if Tehran did not reopen the vital shipping lane within 48 hours.
On Thursday, Trump said the 10-day delay would last until 20:00 Washington time on April 6, 2026.
Since the US and Israel launched air raids on Iran on February 28 and Iran retaliated by attacking Israel and the Gulf states, the waterway, vital for global oil and natural gas trade, has largely been closed.
