Community Appreciates Police's Steps to Reveal the Case of Watering Activists of KontaS

JAKARTA - The Brotherhood of Muslims (PUI) appreciates the National Police in uncovering the case of watering against the Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

They also held a sympathy action in front of the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The action was a form of support for law enforcement as well as the delivery of public aspirations.

The Coordinator of PUI, Sjahrir Jasim, said that the success of uncovering the case quickly should be a standard for handling other cases, especially major cases that have not been fully revealed until now.

"This shows that the National Police is able to work quickly and professionally. Therefore, the public also hopes that the same standards will be applied in major cases that still leave questions," said Sjahrir at the location.

PUI assessed that a number of events such as the Kanjuruhan Tragedy and the KM 50 event require disclosure that is not only complete in a formal legal sense, but also comprehensive.

"The National Police must be able to answer various aspects that are of public concern, ranging from standard operating procedures (SOP), the use of force, to the clarity of the chain of command in the two major cases," he said.

According to Sjahrir, handling major cases is not enough to stop at the perpetrators at the field level.

"It takes courage to trace responsibility to the level of policy makers so that substantive justice can really be realized," he said.

In addition, PUI also highlighted the irregularities that have not been answered, especially regarding the incompleteness or loss of CCTV footage in both events.

In fact, the recording is one of the important evidence in uncovering the facts objectively.

"When key evidence such as CCTV is not available in its entirety, it is natural for the public to question the law enforcement process. This needs to be explained openly," he said.

According to him, in the Kanjuruhan Tragedy, the facts of the previous trial revealed the use of tear gas in a confined space that contributed to the loss of human life.

"The facts of the trial revealed the use of tear gas without the correct procedure, this is where it contributed to the loss of human life," he said.

Meanwhile, in the case of KM 50, PUI assessed that it was still necessary to have a thorough clarity regarding the chronology of the incident, the basis for the actions of the officers, and the parties responsible in the command structure.

"There are still many facts that have been absolved in the KM 50 case, and who is responsible for the operation that resulted in the death of 6 FPI members," he added.

He also believes that public trust in law enforcement institutions is not only determined by speed, but also by transparency, consistency, and courage in uncovering the facts in full.

"PUI believes that if the National Police is transparent and consistent in uncovering the facts, then there is no case that cannot be revealed," he said.

PUI also encourages the National Police to continue its professional performance by prioritizing the principles of accountability and openness, especially in handling cases that have a wide impact on the community.
